Day 1
The first place to start your travels in Kerry is Killarney. This town of 12,000 inhabitants is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland due to its gorgeous scenery and abundance of outdoor activities. If you only have a few days to explore, it’s the perfect spot for a basecamp!
Start your day by exploring the grounds of Killarney National Park. Its 26,000 acres are filled with hiking trails, a wild lake landscape dotted with islands, and the famous McGillycuddy Reeks mountain range. The park is also home to some of Kerry’s oldest buildings such as Ross Castle and Muckross House and Gardens.
After you’ve had your fill of the great outdoors, take some time to explore the town and visit its boutiques, pubs, and restaurants. One unique experience is an afternoon spent horseback riding around the grounds of Knockreer!
End your day by taking a ride on Killarney’s famous jaunting car. This traditional horse-drawn carriage is the perfect way to get a unique perspective of the town and its surroundings. The jarveys are full of knowledge so sit back, listen and enjoy the scenery.

Day 2
The second day of your travels in Kerry should start with a trip to Dingle Peninsula. This stunning area is home to some of Ireland’s most breathtaking scenery, including the Conor Pass mountain road (drivers beware) which offers spectacular views over the region. We only recommend this if you’re a very confident driver.
Once you’ve arrived in Dingle, take some time to explore its colorful harbor town and the narrow streets that make up its charming center. While there, don’t forget to try out traditional Irish fare such as smoked salmon or a classic Guinness stew!
In the afternoon, take a drive along Slea Head Drive where you’ll find ancient stone ruins, secluded beaches, and hidden coves. Be sure to make a stop at the Blasket Islands for spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean before heading back to Killarney. Another option is to explore the coastline with Dingle Sea Safari.

Day 3
On your last day in Kerry, take some time to explore its wild Atlantic coastline. Take a boat trip from Portmagee to Skellig Michael. *Note that bookings are required months in advance* This uninhabited island is home to an ancient monastery complex that dates back to the Middle Ages. Walking through its ruins is like taking a step back in time, You will know straight away why Star Wars was filmed there.
Finally, end your trip by taking a drive out to Killarney National Park. This stunning park is home to some of Ireland’s most beautiful scenery, including Torc Waterfall and Muckross Lake. Take some time to explore the area on foot or take one of the many available boat tours around the lake for a unique perspective.
